Summer News

Greetings from the road! As we speak I am on a road trip to exhibit my work at the Santa Fe Art Fair, July 15-1 7. Our truck is loaded with art and I am thrilled to be back in New Mexico for a few days. I spent time here in college at the University of New Mexico. Many of my weekends were spent in Santa Fe. It feels good to be back in the unique light that the mountains and dry air create here with spectacular sunsets and towering thunderhead clouds.

Much of the work I will be showing is newly created just for the fair. I am excited to share some of it in this newsletter .

Lone Challis Stallion

This particular piece is of a Lone Stallion in the Challis herd management area in Idaho.
In summer the horses travel to higher ground and are much harder to find. I was lucky to finally spot this one. I had almost given up for the day after searching for hours on dirt roads in this beautiful backcountry. It is not just about seeing the horses out in the wild, it is as much about being in the vast open landscapes of the west that speak deeply to my soul. I know so many who feel this way also. Nature however you take it in, is important to our wellbeing and, in turn, to our environment.

Wild Stallion, wild horse on rocks, Montana

Noble One a stallion from the Pryor Mountains, Montana

This magnificent stallion posed above me at dusk as though he knew of his beauty. Camping on top of the incredible plateau where this herd lives is a truly magical healing place for me as I navigate the joy of seeing them in the wild, knowing these particular horses are protected, but many others are facing roundups this summer.

One Who Sees, one of my first and favorite images from where I developed my passion for wild horses many years ago at Return to Freedom Sanctuary in California.
