SPRING NEWS

Where I live spring takes a long time to show up. Minnesota had an enormous amount of snow this year and our spring is a tad later than other years. Leaves and spring ephemerals have just emerged, the air smells like Florida and we heartily welcome the humidity and warmth! Wherever you are, I hope you are enjoying a happy spring!

Minneapolis St Paul International Airport Exhibit

MSP Terminal 1, Airport Mall South Gallery

April 2023 - April 2024

This exhibition is a tribute to one of the most iconic and majestic creatures of the American West - the mustang horse. Minneapolis-based photographer Tori Gagne captured these images over a span of 9 years (2012-2021) in various locations in the western United States, including Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah.

The photographs capture the beauty and strength of these wild horses, both in their natural habitat on public lands and in wild horse sanctuaries. Mustangs played a crucial role in the exploration, travel, and building of the American West, making them an integral part of the region's history and heritage.

The exhibition not only celebrates the mustang's importance to the American West but also highlights the environmental pressures that threaten their survival. Mustangs live in family groups and have distinct social structures in the wild, and these photos depict specific behaviors they use to keep their social structures intact.

'Vanishing Wild' is a visual ode to these incredible creatures and a reminder of the need to protect and preserve them for generations to come.

For more information about the artist, and to learn where and how to see wild horses, visit link. If you download the pdf links will be live.

Book Recommendation

“Chad Hanson has written a wonderful book exploring his fascination with the wild horses of the American West, taking readers on a journey inside the lives of these magnificent animals and the wild places where they still live. Weaving together sociology, ecology, and history, Hanson explores the importance of a reverence for nature to human psychology, why wild horses inspire awe, and why saving them is essential to preserving the last vestiges of all that is wild in the West. An excellent read!”

Summer News

Greetings from the road! As we speak I am on a road trip to exhibit my work at the Santa Fe Art Fair, July 15-1 7. Our truck is loaded with art and I am thrilled to be back in New Mexico for a few days. I spent time here in college at the University of New Mexico. Many of my weekends were spent in Santa Fe. It feels good to be back in the unique light that the mountains and dry air create here with spectacular sunsets and towering thunderhead clouds.

Spring News

Muskogee, a young stallion living in the McCollough Peaks herd management area of Wyoming. I recently spent time in this area and captured this young bachelor dashing from the waterhole. Spending time on our public lands with these iconic animals is a form of pure inspiration for me. Horses are great teachers and healers; I learn so much about them and myself by observing them in their natural habitat. This image recently won an honorable mention in the International Color Awards along with several other images receiving nominations. I am truly honored.
