Texas Photographic Society Members Show

I am honored to have this image exhibiting In the Texas Photographic Society's Members show juried by Keith Carter. ON Exhibit at the Center for Contemporary Arts in Abilene, Texas Jan 19- March 27.

It depicts a stallion in the Challis herd management area in Idaho  escaping summer heat and bugs, relishing in the breeze of an oncoming summer storm. I had been looking for this herd literally all day amongst stunning vistas on dirt roads. The herds go up to the high country in summer and are very difficult to locate! Patience and before crack of dawn hours are part of wild horse photography. I finally took a few shots thinking I was way too far away to get a good image. Not knowing at the time that I had an image that speaks volumes about wild horses, the land, the practice of photographing them, their beautiful environment and the solace they bring to me and countless others who are trying so hard to get our government to find a way to manage them humanely. My heart breaks every day for those who end up at auctions in the hands of kill buyers for the weight of their meat.
