Lake Superior is not only the largest of the Great Lakes; it is the largest body of fresh water on Earth. Lake Superior is known as Gitchi-gami to the native Ojibwe people, meaning "Great Lake". It is also the coldest of the five Great Lakes and rarely freezes over. Lake Superior has different moods, depending on which way the wind is blowing. One day it can be calm and the next day, have huge waves crashing on the shore from gale force winds. It is one of my favorite places to visit and always provides incredible visual beauty and delight to the senses from the fresh pine scent of the north and the rugged rocky shoreline.
